Nitronic®50 stainless steel

Nitronic®50 stainless steel
Nictronic50 is an austenitic stainless steel. Its corrosion resistance and strength are unmatched by commercial materials at the same price.

The corrosion resistance of Nitronic50 is better than that of 316, 316L, 317, 317L and other materials, and the room temperature yield strength is up to twice that of these grades. The yield strength of high-strength Nitronic50 (HS) can reach 3-4 times that of 316 stainless steel. In addition, Nictronic50 has good mechanical properties in both warming and low temperature environments. Unlike most austenitic stainless steels, Nitronic50 will not be magnetized when cold-worked or cooled to sub-zero temperatures.

Application
For 316, 316L, 317, and 317L applications where performance reaches the limit, Nitronic50 is extremely advantageous. The material is widely used in petroleum, petrochemical, chemical, fertilizer, nuclear fuel recycling, papermaking, textile, food processing and maritime industries. Nictronic50 is used to manufacture pumps, valves, connectors, fasteners, cables, mesh screens, steel wire screen cloth, ship hardware, ship shafts, pump shafts, heat exchanger parts, springs, photographic equipment, etc., which require both corrosion resistance and high Strength parts.

magnetic flux
Nictronic50 will not be magnetized even after heavy cold working. In a low temperature environment, the magnetic flux of Nitronic50 is still very low. At -240°C, the magnetic susceptibility of Nitronic 50 will have a peak. This phenomenon has nothing to do with the strength of the magnetic field, but with the temperature.

Corrosion resistance
In most media, the corrosion resistance of Nitronic50 is due to 316, 316L, 317 and 317L. In most applications, Nitronic50 in the annealed state of 1066° can provide sufficient corrosion resistance while having higher strength. In a very corrosive environment, or when the material needs to be welded, annealed at 1121°C should be used. Nitronic50 high-strength state (HS) is often used to manufacture shaft and nut parts, but the corrosion resistance is average.

Annealing temperature
The delivery state of Nitronic50 can be annealed at 1066°C-1121°C. For most applications, annealed at 1066°C should be used, which has higher mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance. If the welded parts are used in a strong corrosive environment, the annealing state at 1121°C should be selected.
Like other austenitic stainless steels, Nitronic50 requires rapid cooling after annealing. The cold forming process requires interval annealing, and the annealing temperature is 1066°C.

Processing performance
Although the performance of Nitronic50 is higher than that of 300 series stainless steel, they can be processed with the same equipment and technology.

Forging
The forging process of Nitronic50 is similar to that of 316 stainless steel, but requires more energy. The temperature range for forging is 1177°C-1232°C.

Welding
Nitronic50 is suitable for all conventional welding methods available for austenitic stainless steel, without preheating before welding or annealing after welding.

Performance characteristics
① The corrosion resistance of Nitronic®50 stainless steel is better than that of 316L and stainless steel. It can be exposed to the marine atmosphere for a long time. In a quiet seawater environment, its corrosion resistance is slightly better than that of alloys.
②Nitronic®50 stainless steel has twice the tensile strength of stainless steel.
③Nitronic®50 stainless steel will be affected by stress corrosion cracking in a hot chloride environment, and its crack resistance is between 304 and 316.
④Nitronic®50 stainless steel still maintains excellent mechanical properties at 629℃.
⑤Nitronic®50 stainless steel has good mechanical properties under low temperature conditions and extremely low magnetic permeability.
