As the first super austenitic stainless steel Ultra 254SMO to utilize the beneficial effects of high molybdenum and nitrogen, since it was introduced to the market in the 1970s, it has been recognized by users worldwide due to its excellent resistance to uniform corrosion, pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion , Widely used in oil and gas, offshore platforms, flue gas desulfurization and paper making industries.
 
With the continuous development of industry, it brings more challenges of pollution and corrosion. Only the use of more reliable and corrosion-resistant materials can ensure that there is no risk of leakage. Outokumpu has developed Ultra 654SMO, a second-generation super austenitic stainless steel containing 7%Mo and 0.5%N, which can replace nickel-based alloys used in wet corrosive environments. It is suitable for petrochemical industry, waste incineration, and flue gas desulfurization. Non-ferrous metallurgy, seawater desalination, papermaking and other industries with strong acidity, high chloride ions and harsh corrosion conditions at higher temperatures.
 
According to the pitting corrosion resistance equivalent-PRE value of the alloy in the table below, the corrosion resistance of Ultra 654SMO is better than Alloy 31 and Alloy 625.
 
 
Through the ASTM G48 test, the critical pitting temperature (CPT) and crevice corrosion temperature (CCT) of Ultra 654SMO are comparable to nickel-based alloys Alloy C276 and Alloy 22.
