253MA stainless steel performance and characteristics
Introduction of stainless steel grades--The performance and characteristics of 253MA stainless steel
253MA is a heat-resistant austenitic stainless steel grade with excellent high temperature characteristics and good processability. Its high temperature oxidation resistance can reach 1150°C, and it has better performance than 310 stainless steel in the atmosphere containing carbon, nitrogen and sulfur.
253MA® is a trademark of Outokumpu Stainless Steel Company. In the standard name nomenclature, it is UNS S30815. Other steel mills also produce grades that comply with UNS S30815, including SiriusS15®.
The low nickel content of 253MA gives it some advantages over high-nickel alloys and 310 stainless steel in a reducing sulfide environment. The high content of chromium, silicon, nitrogen and cerium makes the steel have good oxide stability, high temperature (creep) strength and excellent resistance to σ phase precipitation.
The austenitic structure gives it excellent toughness and maintains good toughness even at freezing low temperatures.
Corrosion resistance
Although this grade is not designed to resist corrosion by aqueous solutions, its high chromium and nitrogen content makes its pitting corrosion resistance roughly equivalent to 316 stainless steel. 253MA has a high carbon content, so it is easy to sensitize. After high temperature use or processing, it may reduce the resistance to corrosion of aqueous media.
Heat resistance
Anti-oxidation: It has excellent anti-oxidation performance, and the temperature can be as high as 1100°C. At high temperature, oxides with strong adhesion, thin and elasticity will be formed quickly, which has a good protection effect on steel, even under the conditions of temperature cycling, which is significantly better than 310 stainless steel. The anti-oxidation performance is the best under the condition of non-cyclic temperature change.
Carburization resistance: performs well under oxidizing conditions. If it is a reducing condition, a brand with a higher nickel content should be used.
Anti-sulfuration: In an oxidizing environment (even with only a trace of oxygen), it has good resistance to sulfur-containing gases. The reducing gas prevents the formation of protective oxides.
253MA has high strength at high temperature, so it is often used in structural applications and pressure applications with temperatures ranging from about 500°C to 900°C.
253MA will be sensitized in the temperature range of 425-860°C, which has no effect on high-temperature applications, but will lead to a decrease in the corrosion resistance of aqueous solutions.
Heat treatment
Solution treatment (annealing)
Heat to 1050-1150°C and cool quickly. It is recommended that the material be solution treated after 10-20% cold working to obtain the highest creep strength.
Heat treatment can not make it hard
Welding
Excellent welding performance, all standard welding methods are applicable. AS 1554.6 pre-assessed the welding with the matching 22.12HT electrode. If lower creep strength is acceptable, 309 filler metal can be used. The shielding gas should use pure argon.
Machining
Like other austenitic stainless steels, machining requires sharp, slow, and strong feed.
Typical application
Furnace components, including burners, conveyor belts, fans, fixtures and baskets, rollers, walking beams, radiant tubes, electric heating elements, refractory anchors, hoods, flues, grate, bellows expansion joints, petrochemical and oil refineries Casing hanger.
Performance data specified in standard specifications
ASTM A240/A240M specifies the properties of S30815 flat rolled products (medium plate, thin plate and coil). For other products such as pipes of corresponding specifications, similar but not necessarily identical performance indicators are specified.
